Amnesty International has announced the use of satellite images to document the ongoing atrocities in Syria. Amnesty reports that this technology will counter the deadly attack on foreign journalists in Homs last week. Although satellites are not likely to provoke any immediate convictions, they will prove to be a useful tool in investigating crimes against humanity. Specifically, the images will be able to more accurately identify perpetrators and trace the chain of command. There’s an argument that no more violent and graphic images should be shown, but Amnesty and other human rights orgs are of the opposite opinion (obviously). Thoughts on the eternal violent images to portray truth vs. no violent (offensive?) images debate? Just for Syria, because each conflict is its own can of worms….
